ABOUT

Our mission is to display and bring light to the prejudice around us and in our past, using historical context specifically from 'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee. By detailing these racist acts in our world, we can bring justice where it's needed and show how xenophobia has been a part of our country since its origin.

xenophobia-dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries

prejudice- preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

Themes from this book are still apparent in our life today and showed the struggles of african americans and women in our country's past. This story follows to harrowing trial of Tom Robinson, a black man accused of sexually assaulting a white woman. The people in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama, where the book took place, immediately assumed Robinson was guilty, as the town was made of mostly racist people. This example of prejudice is still apparent in our world today, where african americans and other people of color are typically presumed as a "threat" or "terrorists" just because of the color of their skin. Although they have never had a bad experience personally with a black person, whcih still would give these people no reason to be racist, they still had a major prejudice against the entire race.

Slavery was abolished and african americans were set free, yet equality is still something that they are struggling to gain after hundreds of years. The prejudice in Tom Robinson's trial was extremely apparent, and was shown by his all white jury. Scout, the books main character, saw first hand many acts of prejudice and racism in her young years. As a young white girl, none of these acts were directed towards her, as white privilege was just as strong as it is currently in our country. To Kill A Mockingbird brings light to the disgusting reality of prejudice and how dangerous it can be.
